This was all developed as part of Corbett and McClymont’s overall scheme. They took leases of some of the sites themselves, but in other cases they were parties to leases to other builders. This arrangement usually meant that they had sub-contracted work to other builders so, at their request, the Gunters would grant the leases to those builders who then took on the liability and the construction work. The leases were all granted in 1865.
On the east side of the road, Corbett and McClymont took leases themselves of Nos. 29-55, but Nos. 1-15 were leased to Thomas Hussey and Thomas Huggett and Nos. 17-27 to Frederick Saunders.
On the west side of the road, Corbett and McClymont took leases themselves of Nos. 8-14. Nos. 2-6 were leased to John Beale
